Project meeting in Žiar nad Hronom

A new challenge, a new meeting. This time it’s for the second time within the framework of project ACES, which includes schools OA Příbram and Súkromná obchodná akadémia from Žiar nad Hronom. The purpose of this project is to show if we’re still the same even after 20 years or if we all have a different way of life. Eight students travelled a long way to Slovakia on Monday 24. 2. 2014. In the night after the long way, host families welcomed our students in their home. In the next 3 days an excellent programme was were prepared for us and we visited “copper” Bánská Bystrica, “silver” Bánská Štiavnica and at least “gold” Kremice. Of course we visited historic buildings of these historic cities.

And our resumes? We found out, that 80 years ago we started good relations for the future and now after the split up of Czechoslovakia we still can find our way to each other. Younger generation found difference in vocabulary in both of our languages, which they found out like funny.

And what about students?

Iva Čápová

In the week from 24. 2. to 28. 2. 2014 we visited our friends from Slovakia in Žiar nad Hronom. After a long, but still funny, way to Slovakia by train, we came to the town, where our friends took us to their homes. Oncoming day we went on a trip to the Bánská Bystrice, where we could see the monument of SNP, the SNP square, tanks and airplanes. After a long walk along the sights, they showed us Europe – shopping centre, where we could buy some souvenirs for our families and we could go back to the houses of our hosts. On Wednesday we visited a guided tour in Banská Šťavnica. The guide showed us the town and at the end of the day she planed the trip to an burned out volcano Kalvaria, where there are 26 chapels and three churces. It actually looked like „our“ Holly Mountain. Oncoming day our friends planed a cross through Žiar. For the first time they welcomed us at the town hall, where we met local TV. We could also see a zoo, a square with an unusual fountain, an observatory, a castle and many others. After that we went to Kremnica. We also visited the Castle of St. Catherine. In the afternoon we should have visited a museum of coins, but we came late. In the evening we went to a restaurant for final diner. Everything went so fast and it was Friday morning and we had to go back home. Before we got on the train, we said goodbye and promised to each other that we will visit each other again.

We would like to appraise the whole week positively. As we knew each we were closer and we talked more. So we thank to our Slovak friends and we hope that it wasn’t the last time we saw each other. They planned a really interesting programme for us and we can honestly say that we weren’t bored.

We liked all the week. When we do not count days when we were totally tired and we though, that we’re not able to continue in walking (for example the way to the Kalvária), the programme was amazing. We visited their town from „historic“ point of view, but they also showed us their town from their point of view. It means that learnt to know the sights, favourite places, places where we can eat good food, etc… Our friends where friendly and their families welcomed us in their homes. At the end of the trip, our „families“ gave us some presents and they told us to came to Slovakia again and visit them.

Evaluation of the whole project

What did we enjoy the most? I guess we enjoyed the most the trip to Banská Bystrica. We visited some historic places and what we loved the most was the shopping centre, where we bought some clothes and food (it was the best food we had). We bought some drinks there too.

What did we enjoy the least? We climbed (seriously, we really did) to the tower. We were so tired and we thought that our legs are going to fell off.

What was the most difficult thing or moment for us? When we were in Banská Štavnica and we had to walk all for such a long time in cold weather and we just wanted lie to bed and sleep. It was really difficult for us, because we were really tired and we really didn’t want to go somewhere to the top of the Banská Šťavnica. (Sorry, I didn’t know how to write it :D)

What is the most important thing you learned from others during the project? I think that we realised that we are still the same and we just don’t know some words (not really often). At least we learned that Slovakia really looks like the Czech Republic, but people in Slovakia are friendlier than in the Czech Republic. Maybe we just think so, or maybe we met good people.

What is the most important thing others learned from us? That’s what we really don’t know, because how can you know what others learned from you, when it’s not your brain but theirs and it’s not common thing. We mean… you don’t talk to someone and you just don’t stop talking about what you learned from them and something like that. So… we had to ask them when we want to know and we didn’t, so it means we do not know.

What do we think that project has achieved? That we got to know Slovakia people. (:D) We really don’t know, we just met them and they showed us their „home“ and we showed them our „home“. That’s actually what it has achieved.
