Workshop - Diversity at our
school
In the Christmas atmosphere,
on 19 December 2013 a workshop about diversity was realised at our school. At
first all participants could experience financial diversity when playing a game
about money. The aim of the game was to gain as much money as possible. After
that, all students coming from another country introduced themselves and their
home places. We have found out that our school is actually quite multicultural
as we have students from Ukraine, Vietnam, Austria, Slovak Republic and Rumania
and these students were talking about their experience with living in the Czech
Republic. The discussion was really interesting and we leant a lot of
surprising information about our "foreign" classmates and we could
also hear some sentences in their mother languages. To demonstrate diversity of
opinion, we organised an election and all students had to answer a
question: Would you like to marry a foreigner? 93 students answered definitely
yes. 12 students cannot imagine to marry a foreigner and 28 students would
accept only a foreigner from Europe. The last activity of our workshop was
creating of colourful posters. The students put a sticker on posters referring
to different social groups they belong to. This activity revealed that there
are 50% male and 50% females at our school, 50% of them live in a city and in a
village approximately the same percent are single or in a relationship.
The most popular communication media is face book, what a surprise, most
of our students are carnivorous and their favourite type of music is different
than given options - disco, techno or rap. Learning about others leads to
cognition of ourselves and this workshop was a great example of this fact.

Evaluation of workshop
Diversity at our school, 19 December 2013:
This workshop changed our
opinion on foreigners and their life in our country. The Vietnamese classmates
and their dialogue gained our attention. We also got important information
about cooking rise in a correct way. We appreciated that we could take an
active part (collecting coins). The whole in workshop was witty and creative.
We would like to participate
in more projects like this.

What I liked about the programme about diversity
It was interesting, funny,
informative and I was not bored any second. It was a nice surprise for me that
there are so many foreigners at our school and I am glad that they volunteer
introduced themselves to us and I could learn something about them. I liked the
presentation prepared by the foreign students as well as the common activities.
To sum up, I like the programme and I think I was time well spent.
